| Oh, you want manly? |
[Aug. 4th, 2008|06:46 pm] |
So I'm doing this shirt for a christian camp or retreat or something. They wanted a "trendy" (you know, Affliction-style garbage... some people don't know any better), so I designed them a distressed tattoo-type of design that I felt was pretty solid. I get another order for a re-do on it with these comments:
"Need to 'rough it up' more." "Needs a more 'rugged' cross, no flowers." "Use a more 'manly font' on the main verbiage."
Nigga, please. It's a perfectly sound design. The "flowers" are actually vine tracery around a metal cross. This is either the manliest group of bible-thumpers on earth or the biggest homophobes on the planet.
I'm going to man-up the hell out of this design on the re-do. If we have a hurricane here tomorrow (tonight?), as we're predicted to have, I'll stay home from work and dedicate my entire day to making the most manly design this side of hell those goofs have ever laid their eyes on. It'll be so manly, they'll tear off their sacks and beat each other with them. Which is kinda gay. Thin line, folks.
Anyway, I'm thinking something along the lines of:
A T-rex with robotic hammerhead sharks for arms shooting a tank in half with a steampunk crucifix-cannon and jesus is the T-800. Hey, they asked for it. You don't tell a guy that nicknamed his right forearm Castle Greyskull that you need a more 'manly' design. That shirt will be so manly, anyone that wears it will get pregnant. Even the guys. |

The Dark Knight was good. Health Ledger played a great Joker. It's just something so funny about seeing Batman in daylight and under fluorescent lighting that makes him look totally, 100% unbelievable. When he's in the shadows you're all, "OH SNAP! You're so bat-raped, criminals." But when he's under direct light, you're all, "Nice costume, freakshow. No, over here. Oh, you can't turn your head? Sucker."
Don't want to spoil it for those that didn't see it yet, so:
( soooo... ) |

Umm yeah, I just might not want to watch the shit out of Hellboy 2. I think it'll be a good 100 times better than that crapfest otherwise known as Pan's Labyrinth. That's right, I went there. |

| Update |
[Jul. 7th, 2008|08:11 pm] |
Abi got the job and will be able to terminate the contract she had with her prior school.
Work is slowing down a bit, which is good.
I started working out again.
My mac is pissing me off. Does anyone have any graphic/web programs they could "lend" me? Like photoshop, illustrator, or dreamweaver? I need the programs that run on the intel-based macs, because my mac is such a snob it doesn't run archaic programs lke photoshop 7 because it's classic or some shit... Duh. I hate that computer more and more.
Make with the software, bitches. |

things i don't like about the macbook:
no usb ports on the right side of the computer. Sure, I'll get a bluetooth mouse in the future, but right now it's annoying. And i'm not using the "super cool" track pad for graphic programs.
Which leads me to the biggest upsetting thing about this computer...
apparently the $2,000 in software I got from work only works in a "classic environment"? what the shit is that? No photoshop; no illustrator.
Macs suck. Big time.
But hey, it's pretty, right? And that's all that matters. |

Abi has the opportunity to teach at the High School she originally wanted to when we moved here. She's in a contract with her current school to return teaching come this August. We're hoping she gets the job and can be released from the contract. But this is me she's married to. Let's not get our hopes up now.
If you pray or sacrifice stuff or any other rituals, put a little extra in it for Abi to land this job AND be able to accept it without hassles.
As for me, I'm 2 days ahead in my work (with incredible computer problems), and we purchased our first mac. It's a macbook, nothing crazy, just to do work from home with. Good thing is, I get about $3,000 in free design software from work. Bad news is, it's a mac. Ha! |

| Idiot-proof, eh? |
[Jun. 26th, 2008|06:00 pm] |
Either Steve Jobs lies or the universe does not know the extent of my idiocy.
I broke a mac today by installing a download off the apple site. I went to the apple site to download the safari update, and I DLed it, installed, did the required restart and then Safari and my Mail app don't open. I tried the the repair in Disk Utilities; I tried opeing the apps directly from the app folder (HAHAHA at that even being a suggested 'fix'), yet all it does is bounce in the tray when I mouse over it, but when I click on it, nothing opens. Same deal when I open it from the app folder. ANd when I dragged it to the desktop and tried to open it. LOL @ these mac fixes. Jeeez.
If it was a PC, I'd have had it fixed six ways to Sunday by now. |

Just a quick update. So long as I've been at this job (about a month) this computer has crashed on me more times since than any computer I've ever owned. Mac, it just works... when it wants to. |

The universe won't let me have money. Ever. Here's a great analogy, and if you don't get it, get off my friends list. Remember in Predator when the spanish girl, Anna, goes to pick up a gun to shoot the predator, but then Arnold kicks it out of her hands. He knew that if she picked up that gun she would be dead. That's me with money, only there's no Arnold to kick it out of my hand before I get it. Everytime I've come into a somewhat large sum of money, a problem that is just as costly, or even more so, comes knocking at my door.
The repairs on my car? 700 bucks. Thanks, universe. Mind you, this is a 2004 leased vehicle with only 18,000 miles on it. Also, I'm returning it in October. GET OUT YOUR FUCKIN' CHECKBOOK.
It makes me wonder what would happen if I won the lotto.
"Mr. DeCerbo, we're from AOL Time Warner and we have a bill for AOL usage here spanning from 1993-today. You logged on at one time and never logged off. You've been racking up charges ever since. So, we'll gladly take our 45 million dollars now and be on our way. And that one time you illegally downloaded a song? We saw that. And we're charging you for that, too." |

[Jun. 10th, 2008|08:59 am] |
in the last 24 hours: i had to drop off my intern, who doesn't know anything about computers, off at his "house" in the 5th ward (the Compton of Houston.. seriously). My car broke down this morning, I forgot my phone at home, so I had to walk back home to make the call to AAA. And now I find out that the warranty on our leased car (whose lease isn't up yet) expired a year ago. Also, I worked 12.5 hours yesterday. When I get to work today at 1pm, boy oh boy is this gonna be a fun day...
Anymore curve balls, universe? |

I'm a day behind with all my work at this new job and running into more problems than ever.
But this cheered me up. If you have a catcher's mask, maybe a a riot helmet, you may want to put it on your grandma, because this remix is so insane you'll kick her into orbit. Maybe you should get her a space suit. Anyway:
I'm going to a birthday party for one of my daughter's friends at this place called Bounce U, which is pretty much nothing but a private area where you can do whatever you want on these huge moonwalks. After listening this song, I think I'm gonna have to break out the corkscrew for old time sake. Maybe even land it. |

new job is tough. i said i wasn't going to complain about it if i ever got an art job, so i won't. it's a lot of work for one person just starting out. everything broke, but i fixed it; it took a lot of time. macs are made for dummies, and for good reason. using my pc mouse feels weird.
anyway, i'll be away form the internet for awhile because of work. until i figure more stuff out and can manage my projects, i have zero time to fool around. i skipped every meal today and didn't get home until 7pm. my drive is 30 miles one way. that's crazy, huh? that's texas.
yay new job. it'll get easier as time goes on. also, clip art is stupid. |

Dear Houston,
This is the type of music you're supposed to be playing. You know, the kind you can actually DANCE to, not bob up and down crooked off of cough syrup, you dumbasses.
Thank you, The Management.
p.s. I love this song so much right now. |

I went to my new job after this craphole job yesterday for a brief sitdown with the current designer. The easiest part seems to be the actual designing, but learning the system and printing settings and all that stuff is pretty crazy. I wish I had the time to work with him for a week or two, but it looks like it's the ol' Thrown To The Wolves for me. He's been the head designer there for 4 years, and then here comes me to take over his spot. It's going to be a crazy June, I can bet that right now.
There's not TOO much original designing, which is good for now. I can't be mulling over ideas for an hour with all this other work piling up while I'm trying to figure out separations and what not. The program Freehand seems easy enough. It's like a dumbed down Illustrator, which is good, because my Illustrator knowledge is nothing to write home about; Pen tool... that's it.
I'm taking off from this job tomorrow to spend a full day there with Frank, the designer. I figure tomorrow, then next wednesday (full days) and maybe a few after work sessions and I should have a handle on most of it. Of course there's going to be snags along the way, but those full days there are what'll really help prepare me.
In other news, I went to buy some new 'work clothes' (t-shirts and jeans! woohoo!) and everything fit weird. I now have this bump on my stomach. It's fat. right around the front area of my obliques. I have a naturally wide waist and obliques from years of twisting and kicking and slamming, but now it's actually an excess of fat. I've been doing some exercises here and there, but nothing routine yet. I figure I should start warm-up jogging in the next few days before I go balls out (like I always do) and spend the follows days/week in DOMS pain. I'm emailing Abi's cousin to set up workout times so I can plan the rest of my week for running and swimming accordingly. I plan on picking up a set of gymnastics rings if I score any birthday money and then all should be back to normal in about two months or so. And even though I'm a fatty now, I can still [crappy]planche and flag and do handstand push-ups. I think my body and metabolism are on the edge of a cliff, holding on by, like, the tip of its middle finger, dangling, yelling, "Help! I can't hold on much longer.." Because one day I'm going to take a bite of a cheeseburger and my stomach is just going to expand like those airplane life vests with the pull-string release.
So yeah, everything seems to be going well.
Also, I need a haircut. |

[May. 19th, 2008|11:27 am] |
My good friend just did a review of the Wii Fit on his website Gizmodo. Here's the article Wii Fit review by a formerly fit geek
Man, I've never seen him in such bad shape. Look at his picture at 25. That's the way I remembered him my whole life. We've been friends since the 3rd grade, best friends all throughout our school years and remained good friends through college and beyond. These days we've lost touch a bit, but he did invite me out to his place in Tahoe for snowboarding this coming April. He's busy with running his business, and I'm busy with my family.
Anyway, the sad thing is, he'd probably say the same thing I'm saying about him if he saw me. And then all the bad things that happen to your body when you're not in shape... it's disgusting. But here I sit. I'm making an effort to exercise more. I've been trying to swim as much as possible and doing flips at the pool (one of the best explosive full-body exercises you can do) and I'm trying to get Abi's cousins together to get some sort of fight club/lifting program going on. Once my new job starts, I have a full hour in the mornings to dedicate to fitness. I won't be heavy lifting anymore, but considering all the bodyweight stuff I do at the weight I am now, it's like deadlifting an elephant. Not that I think I'm strong or anything, I'm just fat.
I can't belive how much I've slid in the past year. This move out here really took a toll on me emotionally and physically. I'm going to give myself the summer to get back into acceptable shape. By the time we go back to NJ in December, I want to be in same, if not better, shape than before we came to TX. I'm not going back home and seeing all my friends and looking like a soggy sack of wet dough. |
